Abstract
Niniejsza rozprawa doktorska przedstawia rozwój nowych technik rekonstrukcji dedykowanych wymagającej topologii rozpadu B→Kτℓ w eksperymencie Belle II działającym przy zderzaczu SuperKEKB.
Opracowana metodologia stanowi skalowalne i eksperymentalnie solidne podejście do poszukiwań LFV w kanale B→Kτℓ.
Wykazano, że połączenie pół-leptonowego znakowania z kinematycznie ograniczonymi rozpadami τ otwiera nową perspektywę w badaniach naruszeń zapachu leptonu wzmacniając potencjał odkrywczy eksperymentu Belle II w dziedzinie precyzyjnej fizyki zapachu.
Lepton-flavor-violating (LFV) decays of B mesons provide unambiguous evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), as they are essentially forbidden within the SM framework. The decays B→Kτℓ (ℓ=e,µ) are particularly sensitive to new physics scenarios involving leptoquarks, extended Higgs sectors, or other sources of charged lepton flavor violation. This doctoral work presents the development of novel reconstruction techniques dedicated to the challenging topology of the B→Kτℓ decay at the Belle II experiment operating at the SuperKEKB e+e- collider. A central element of the analysis is the use of semileptonic tagging of the companion B meson. While semileptonic tagging introduces missing energy on the tag side, it provides significantly higher efficiency compared to fully hadronic tagging approaches. This choice becomes particularly powerful through the dedicated exploitation of the hadronic signal decay mode τ→(π/ρ)ν. By selecting τ→(π/ρ)ν, the signal side contains only a single neutrino, resulting in a constrained kinematic configuration. Combining the well-defined initial state of the e+e- collisions with the reconstructed tag-side kinematics enable the signal decay to be reconstructed up to a two-fold kinematic ambiguity arising from quadratic constraints. This strategy allows the recovery of otherwise inaccessible observables and provides strong discrimination against the background processes. The thesis presents the full analysis framework, including signal modeling, background suppression strategies, multivariate classification techniques, systematic uncertainty evaluation, and projected sensitivity with increasing integrated luminosity. The developed methodology establishes a scalable and experimentally robust approach to LFV searches in the B→Kτℓ channel. This work demonstrates that the combination of semileptonic tagging with kinematically constrained τ decays opens a new avenue for charged lepton flavor violation searches at Belle II, significantly enhancing the experiment’s discovery potential in precision flavor physics.
