Abstract:
The cyclotron AIC – 144 at the Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow has been dedicated to the proton therapy of the protons eye tumor. In this application, the essential parameter is the stability of the proton beam current. The paper describes the relationship between the stability of the proton beam current and temperature of the cooling water supplied to various cyclotron parts which shape the beam. We noticed the dependence on the temperature itself and on the temperature gradient. Generally, better stability of the proton beam current, faster stabilization of the set beam parameters, better reproducibility, as well as less energy consumption are ensured at lower temperatures.
