Abstract:
W artykule przedstawiono opracowany w Instytucie Fizyki Jądrowej Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Krakowie projekt CREDO. Omówiono metodę oraz znaczenie rejestracji i analizy promieniowania kosmicznego i radioaktywnego za pomocą małych detektorów znajdujących się np. w popularnych smartfonach. Rejestracja ta ma służyć wielkoskalowemu badaniu, m.in. różnorodnego promieniowania dochodzącego nieprzerwanie z kosmosu do Ziemi. Ma ono ogromne znaczenie naukowe i wywiera wpływ np. na życie biologiczne na Ziemi i na funkcjonowanie nowoczesnego sprzętu elektronicznego. Dla astrofizyków rejestracja ta może być nieocenionym źródłem informacji o mało znanym wysokoenergetycznym widmie promieniowania kosmicznego i przez to dostarczyć niezbędnych informacji do rozwiązania największych zagadek współczesnej kosmologii, jak np. ciemnej materii i energii. Zaproponowana metoda, ze względu na jej formę tzw. nauki obywatelskiej (popularna citizen science), ma także duże znaczenie socjologiczne i może obejmować wszystkich mieszkańców Ziemi.
